More than 400,000 people have missed out on an average saving of £180 by not switching energy supplier during the coronavirus lockdown, new data has revealed.
The figures show that for the first time in six years, the number of UK householders switching supplier has actually reduced.
Comparison website Free Price Compare said that, between March and December 2020, 436,000 fewer UK consumers opted to switch to a cheaper tariff.
The figures come as a surprise as the economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic has led to greater need for many households to cut everyday costs.
Incredibly, the total amount being missed out on by consumers is £2.6billion.
