Are you saving for a rainy day?

If you aren’t currently putting any cash aside, you are not alone. A new survey from a leading
voucher website has found that almost one third of Brits are failing to save anything on a regular
basis, with many blaming the current economic climate.

This is despite the results of another survey which suggests that Brits have never been more
confident about managing their personal finances.

Millions of Brits have savings gap

Vouchercodes.co.uk quizzed three thousand people in October 2010 and found that 31 per cent
of people were not saving any of their wages for a rainy day. In addition, 32 per cent of people
questioned admitted that they did not have any savings to fall back on if they lost their job.

Respondents claimed that they would rely on their family, partner, the Government or loans and
credit cards in desperate times.

Conversely, 19 per cent of respondents revealed that they were actually saving more at the present
time as they were concerned about their job security. Of the people who are saving, the average
saver sets aside 12 per cent of their pay each month – around £195.

Brits ‘more confident’ about managing personal finances

A second survey, this time from Lloyds TSB, has discovered that 57 per cent of all British banking
customers feel more confident about how they manage their personal finance products than they
have in the past. 32 per cent claimed that they were now in more control than previous years,
crediting the global financial crisis and recession as the catalysts to more carefully managing their
household finances.
